The U.S.-Australia Emerging Cancer Biomedical Technologies Workshop is being held to bring together U.S. and Australian scientists working in the cancer research field to discuss challenges and needs in cutting edge, emerging cancer biomedical technologies. The purpose of this three-day workshop is to explore opportunities to develop new basic to translational research collaborations between Australian and U.S. participants, as well as future strategies for cancer research internationally.

To encourage in-depth discussions and strong engagement of participants, the workshop will consist of brief presentations of technologies and approaches followed by group discussions and reports. The workshop will also include sessions and presentations on commercialization, and relevant collaborative programs and funding opportunities.  

Workshop participation is by invitation only.

Event Location and Date

The workshop will be held on the second floor of the Virginia Tech Research Center—Arlington in the Executive Briefing Center. The workshop takes place from Tuesday, June 13, 2017—8:00am to Thursday, June 15, 2017—2:30 pm EDT. Location info: 900 N Glebe Rd, Arlington, VA 22203.

A networking reception will be held by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission at the Embassy of Australia in Washington, DC the evening of June 13, 2017. To enter the Embassy, all workshop participants will be required to show government-issued photo identification (i.e., driver’s license or passport). Hotel

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Westin Arlington Gateway, 801 N Glebe Rd, Arlington, VA, 22203 (Monday, June 12, 2017 through Thursday, June 16, 2017). The room rate is $242/night + tax. The hotel is one block away from the workshop venue at the Virginia Tech Research Center — Arlington.

Meals

Continental breakfast, lunch, and break refreshments will be provided at the workshop by Virginia Tech. Federal participants will be required to pay for lunches in advance (additional information about payment options will be provided soon).

Travel Information and Logistics

Workshop Venue:

The Virginia Tech Research Center—Arlington (900 N Glebe Rd, Arlington, VA, 22203) is accessible by metro and driving. The closest metro is the Ballston-MU Metro Station and is about a five-minute walk to the workshop venue. For those driving, a parking garage is located beneath the Virginia Tech Research Center—Arlington. The garage entrance is off of 9th St N at the corner of N Glebe Rd. Parking costs are $10 maximum for all day parking with hourly rates of $1/hr for the first 2 hrs, and $6 for 3 hrs. Additional information about directions can be found here.

Hotel:

Directions to the Westin Arlington Gateway (801 N Glebe Rd, Arlington, VA 22203) can be found here. The Westin is one block away from the workshop venue, and is accessible by metro and driving.

Reception at the Embassy of Australia:

Shuttle service to and from the Embassy (601 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington DC 20036) will be provided to workshop participants. At the conclusion of the reception, the shuttle will return participants to the Westin hotel. For those driving to the Embassy, parking is limited to street parking or local parking garages. Government-issued photo identification is required to enter the Embassy (i.e., driver’s license or passport).
